Is 75% attendance compulsory in CBSE?

Yes, 75% attendance is strictly compulsory in CBSE schools, but CBSE has provided some grants for attendance in some specified cases as per the official CBSE website.

In the following cases, students can get concessions in attendance by providing valid documents-

  1. Attendance sortie due to prolonged illness. In this case, the following medical documents will be required and submitted to the school management:
  • Permission from the guardian with a signed letter.
  • Medical certificate of authorized government hospital by the government doctor.
  • All necessary medical documents, such as X-rays and medicine slips, etc.
  • Allowance of school to grant the validity for medical reasons.
  1. Loss of close relatives like mother, father, or Sibling. In this case, the guardian’s approval and the death certificate of the deceased are must required.
  2. Any other genuine reason of serious nature like a police case, riot-affected area, etc.
  3. Authorized participation in national or international sports organized by CBSE or any other recognized body.

What to do in case of low attendance in class 10th and 12th?

So you don’t have any valid reason in the case of low attendance but still, you want to wrap up the situation of low or sort attendance. In order to solve the attendance trouble, you can do the following things to get an attendance concession:

  • Ask your class teacher for your rescue. Yes, class teachers can easily save you from this problem. Class teachers are the responsible person who manages and submits your attendance to the head office of your school. And one thing that is very important you should know about is that nearly most schools prepare two attendance diaries, one for the classroom (the original one) and the other for the office (for the inspection by board officials), in the official attendance register the schools make fake attendances of more than 75 % for all the students.

If you have good relations with your class teacher then ask them to help you, or better bring your parents to meet your class teacher as it will be easy to convince them. So this is why you should always maintain better relations with your class and subject teachers.

  • You can also manage to acquire a fake medical certificate from a government hospital or an authorized government doctor.
  • The best way to skip the classes without affecting your attendance is to submit a prior notice or application to your school for seeking a holiday, trip, or something else.
  • In some cases, the school itself can grant a concession of 5 to 6 percent or a maximum of 10% in the case of sort attendance, so that your attendance can meet some minimum required level of attendance. It is assumed that 68 to 70 percent of attendance is normally acceptable.

Is 75% attendance compulsory in online classes?

Yes, it is strictly asked by CBSE and class teachers for 75% attendance in online classes, but this is a complete formality. In the case of online classes, there are various issues and excuses which you can use to avoid attendance failure.

It has been seen that both, Board and schools have become soft on the matter of online class attendance. Since online classes require a mobile, computer, and an internet connection and most of the students feel availability problems with these things.

So you can say that offline attendance is more dangerous than online attendance.

Private attendance vs Regular attendance

So if you are really not interested in regularly visiting your regular classes, then you can also pursue a private admission rather than a regular admission, where you will be called only to give examinations.

But the only problem with private admission is that many colleges won’t accept your mark sheet at the time of admission. Since some known colleges have already denied the application of private mark sheet holders.

So first of all, find your dream college and try to get the information regarding the admission of private candidates.

CBSE 2022 guidelines for calculating attendance.

As per the CBSE official site, the attendance must be calculated from 1st January to 7th January of the academic session.

So it means that after 7th January till the board exams, there will be no attendance counted. Schools are also advised to raise any query or report file related to attendance before 7th January.

The schools can only apply for attendance exemption for a child only for genuine regions as discussed above with the documents having proper credentials from the competent authority.

According to some genuine estimates and data shared by the schools, those students who have shorter attendance are scoring lesser percentile in the board exams.

So it is advised to maintain at least 70% attendance and if you want more time to study then you can skip your classes after the 7th of January of the academic session as the attendance is not counted after this date.
