You can hear many people recommending you to go for online learning for programming, but here I will not recommend you either online or offline methods of learning programming, but I will recommend you go for both, I have a solid reason for this argument, which I will be explaining in this article. Many people argue that online programming courses are best either on youtube or from somewhere else since online content is updated and you can gain knowledge in a very short time, but wait- I will recommend you to go for books also and for online classes too.
For example, many people opt for learning programming on youtube, no matter what kind of programming it is. Online programming has a few serious drawbacks such as irregularity of the contents, which means one can teach you in an unorganized way and since you are a beginner and you cannot catch that gap and hence you will lose some of the important topics, but in case of books, you will find the contents in proper form.
I admit that books are often outdated, but if we consider that the books are outdated then also you will grab the maximum part and you will be equipped with the basic structure of that programming language, and when you are done with books then you can head towards online studies to update yourself.
For learning, programming to make desktop applications or apps you can go for books or either online content or whatever you feel is sufficient, but if you are willing to learn web development from books then there is no problem, you can learn from basic to pro, but some of the new technologies which are required for web development have not come with the books properly. So you have to go for books and online both, but what if you are not able to afford books, then there is no worry you can start with online learning and can master it but if you are learning from free online resources then you may get irritated because of the irregularity of the content.

This channel will not provide you with a step-by-step guide to web development but they have done a webinar on web development.
