What is a multimeter?
A multimeter is a digital device, which is used to measure the properties of electric current flowing in the wire. Multimeters are of various types and can perform various tasks. They can provide you with the details of- AC voltage, DC voltage, ampere, continuity test, diode testing, etc. There are various multimeters present in the market; depending upon the prices you may get more features. Some of them can provide you the function to check the ampere and while others may not. You can see both the basic multimeters in the market such as- analog or digital. Digital multimeters are the most widely used multimeters while analog multimeters are now less used, there are various reasons why not to choose digital multimeters, the analog multimeter is very sensitive, once you drop or jerk analog multimeter, it will be damaged permanently and will show you wrong readings, while digital multimeters are a secure option in this option.
Types of multimeter
There are commonly two multimeters are used in the market-
- Clamp multimeter
- And digital multimeter
Both of these multimeters are digital multimeters, but here in clamp multimeter, there is one extra part which is the “U” shaped structure on its head, which can be used to determine the ampere of the electric current. While normal multimeters are not able to directly read the ampere unit of the current.
Normal multimeters are less costly while clamp multimeters are more costly than normal digital multimeters.
Best brands of multimeter
There are numerous brands of multimeters, in the market. Some are premium and while others are local. Local multimeters are also performing best, instead of being cheap and local, these multimeters can provide you the same readings with a slight difference in the reading in comparison to premium multimeters. However, both premium and local multimeters can be damaged permanently if not used properly. But if you want exactly correct readings and can invest some more money, then will recommend you go for the premium multimeters.

So these are the premium brands of multimeters. If you cannot afford premium multimeters then there is no problem. Nothing to worry about, low-quality multimeters can show you the correct readings but there can be a difference of very negligible readings.
Caution-Cheap multimeters vs. premium multimeter
There is nothing new in the fight of premium and cheap multimeters, having a good multimeter is not an advantage, but you should know how to use multimeters properly irrespective of brands. If you are not using the multimeters properly then no matter what brand the multimeter is, no multimeter can last longer if miss-used.
For example- If you are checking the DC current and have set the multimeter on AC then the components of the multimeter will be damaged. If you are directly checking the ampere of the current with normal multimeters then also you will destroy your multimeter completely.
